Bananas Cure Crohn’s

Nope.  They absolutely do not cure Crohn’s and it makes me absolutely bloody fuming that people would try to make this claim.  I hate to break it to you (if someone hasn’t already told you) but there is currently no cure for Crohn’s. I’m no scientist or expert but do you not think that if curing this horrible disease was as easy as doctors doling fruit out to patients they would have cottoned on?  After all, bananas are considerably cheaper than the meds I’m on…There are many wonderful medications out there that can manage our symptoms but there is absolutely nothing that will get rid of it forever.  Not even bananas.

So why are there people out there that think bananas “cure” Crohn’s?

Well in short, bananas are pretty easy going.

They’re easy to digest which as you know, is essential if you’re having a flare and they’re full of all sorts of good stuff like vitamin B6 and potassium that us Crohnies need to keep our fight going.

Bananas are part of the BRAT diet which I’ve heard is frequently recommended for people with Crohn’s if they’re having a flare – Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast.  These are all bland foods that our guts a chance to sort themselves out (as much as possible anyway!).

So in reality, they’re not some miracle cure for Crohn’s, they are just a simple fruit that won’t stress your belly out (go for the ripe/overripe ones over the green/yellow ones).

Please, please, please, if you come across anything or anyone who claims to have a cure for Crohn’s, research it properly from valid sources before believing these claims!
